“This new series of Pen and Ink drawings of Portland, Maine’s Old Port Architecture are inspired by my mother. Despite years of me painting in oils, my mother often comments that her favorite art pieces of mine are my pen and ink sketches. So mom…here’s to you!”

Erin McGee Ferrell. American Artist

Artist Statement 2015

Erin McGee Ferrell is inspired by architecture merging with landscape. The artist notices the spaces of sky and buildings between suspended electrical lines, seeking to paint the moments of sky that occur between the floors of a parking garage. Drawing is the foundation of her work as an artist. McGee Ferrell’s work may scream abstraction, but underneath adheres to visual accuracy and measurement. Addicted to adrenaline, the artist paints in highly public places where she is forced to paint fast and true. Recent work has focused on the merging of urban and coastal architectural structures in Philadelphia and Maine. McGee Ferrell is a natural entrepreneur who is determined to be an influential and important Contemporary American Artist.

Erin McGee Ferrell studied oil painting at Mount Holyoke College, Pennsylvania Academy of Art, University of the Arts Philadelphia, and The University of Louisville, KY. “One of my art students brought in an old tackle box of retro fishing lures. This is the second painting created from the Fishing Lure Still Life we set up. The first painting, Dan’s Fishing Lures, is 20 x 50 inches and captures the quirky character of the individual lures. This second painting looks at the group collectively.”

Urban Architectural Artist paints Thompson’s Point, Portland, Maine. Philadelphia/ Maine artist, Erin McGee Ferrell, paints Portland urban architectural treasures. Thompson’s Point, an area of Portland under revitalization, is becoming an upscale space for business, hotels, markets, and the nations first accredited Circus University. Oil Painter, Erin McGee Ferrell, paints this location en plein air often. The Thompson’s Point Series of paintings will debut Oct 2, 2014 at the Portland Ballet’s Theater on Forest Ave, Portland, Maine. September in Maine brings glorious blue skies and crisp autumn air. Dwindling days for plein air painting, has the artist visiting her favorite spots. Thompson’s Point, under revitalization changes daily. Soon the leaning telephone poles and chaotic wiring will be buried, the boarded up windows replaced, and the exposed beams covered.

September Urban Landscape Painting

Image

September Urban Landscape Painting. Philadelphia/Maine Artist, Erin McGee Ferrell, paints Portland, Maine. There are two more months for moderate weather in Maine. This September Series of Urban Architectural Cityscapes in Portland marks a final farewell till the warmth of April. Autumn in Portland means cruise ships and different atmospheric light. I find myself stretching toward experimenting with new compositions and statements in my work. “September,” Oil on Hand stretched canvas 50 x 20 inches, references the beauty of change accompanied with the grief and pain that the changing process evokes. Winter is coming. In Maine this is the time to go inside, reflect, germinate. Until then…I’m out painting like a mad woman in this glorious September.
